From the USAC Chair - November 2007
Filed under: Discovery,Letters From The USAC Chair,US Science Support Program
Dear Friends:
I have a pressing announcement to share: the IODP implementation plan has now been posted, and the period for public comment is NOW and until November 30, 2007. Please take a look and submit your comments.
Up to now, the Initial Science Plan (ISP) has been used to guide IODP priorities and planning. However, because of the budget realities, IODP cannot operate all three platforms all year long, as originally planned. As a result, over the last few months an Implementation Plan has been written as a way of guiding IODP's efforts to achieve high-profile science in the next six years.
The Implementation Plan was written by the Science Advisory Structure (SAS), which is populated by our national and international colleagues. If you are not familiar with the SAS, please see the IODP website for a description of the SAS. With a few clicks you can also find a list of your peers that are on each of the SAS committees, and you can get a sense of the diversity of sub-disciplines that are represented. After the Implementation Plan was vetted by the SAS, it was posted on the IODP website for public review.
Remember that the U.S. Advisory Committee for Scientific Ocean Drilling (USAC) is eager to hear from you about the this plan or other issues! Please send any questions or comments to any USAC member or me at any time. You can find the roster at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership website.
Best Regards,
Christina Ravelo
