I am very pleased to inform you that Ocean Leadership has been selected to serve as the new Program Office for the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Observations (IWGOO). The IWGOO is charged with managing the interagency coordination of the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS), integrating national ocean observing efforts, and advising the federal agencies on ocean observing matters. Building on the past successes of Ocean.US, we will do our part in supporting the establishment and expansion of IOOS, a vital tool to benefit the entire community as we strive to understand the ocean environment, particularly during this time of significant climate change. The team is excited and has already hit the ground running in implementing their new responsibilities.
Ocean Leadership’s experience in program management and administrative support in its role as host for other subcommittees of the Joint Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology, such as the National Oceanographic Partnership Program Office and the related Ocean Research and Resources Advisory Panel, certainly played a role in its being chosen to host the IWGOO Program Office. We are proud to add this new responsibility, to broaden our base of national and international programs, and to have the opportunity to serve the community in additional and important ways.
