As the summer winds down here in Washington, Ocean Leadership continues to work hard with planning and preparing for several big ocean community events after Labor Day. One of those events is the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) Regional Coordinators Meeting here at our office September 7-9. NOSB staff will update the coordinators on the progress of the NOSB program and will issue all new materials while preparing for the 2009 regional competitions. We will also take the coordinators to Capitol Hill for meetings with their Congressional Representatives. These meetings are always important so that the members of Congress can hear first hand from the people involved how important the NOSB program is to them and its affect on their communities. The meeting will also be the first days that Kathleen Meehan Coop takes over as the NOSB Director. So, she will certainly be immersed in the program pretty fast. We are extremely excited that Kathleen is joining us to direct this influential program. Her background cultivating environmental education strategies and fundraising success, along with her program management skills make for a great fit for NOSB and Ocean Leadership. I am sure that the regional coordinators will enjoy meeting Kathleen, and helping her understand the program and the many intricacies involved in making this program such a success.
