Monday, June 8, 2009 is the 17th Annual World Ocean Day. The Consortium for Ocean Leadership is proud to support this great day that also happens to fall in Ocean Month and the day before the start of Capitol Hill Ocean Week in Washington, DC.
This year’s theme is “one ocean, one climate, one future.” The ocean covers more than two-thirds of our planet and includes some of the most productive natural systems in the world. As our climate continues to change, we are starting to understand the crucial role that the ocean play in shaping our climate and weather patterns.
Each year, the Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network help coordinate events and activities with aquariums, zoos, museums, conservation organizations, universities, schools and businesses to celebrate our world’s oceans.
Take part in World Oceans Day to help protect our ocean for the future. For more information about World Ocean Day, visit http://www.theoceanproject.org/wod/index.php.
