−Team from Local Massachusetts High School Travels to California−
(Washington, D.C.) – The Consortium for Ocean Leadership’s National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) is pleased to announce that the team who placed second in the 12th Annual National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) Finals Competition, Lexington High School, just returned from their awards trip to Catalina Island and La Jolla, Calif.
In April, Lexington High School tested their ocean knowledge at the Finals competition in Washington, D.C. at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum’s Sant Ocean Hall. Lexington High School earned second place, winning a trip to Southern California, where they visited research facilities run by the University of Southern California (USC) and Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO).
During the trip to Catalina Island and La Jolla, the team, Christopher Teng, Christine Hsiao, Joshua Leung, Noah Paulson and Emilie Yang, assisted with scientific research, kayaked in the Pacific Ocean, hiked to Ironwood Grove and snorkeled in marine life refuges. They also met with graduate students and scientists from USC and SIO.
“The trip was both educational and fun. I learned so much just talking with the graduate students about their research projects and feel like I’ve gained a better understanding about how to pursue science as a career after college.” said Yang, team member.
The second place trip was made possible with the support of the National Oceanographic Partnership Program, USC and SIO. For more information about NOSB, visit www.nosb.org.
