The Consortium for Ocean Leadership is pleased to announce the search for a Staff Accountant. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position. The position will report to the Senior Accounting Manager.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for processing the day to day accounting transactions related to accounts payable, payroll, and accounts receivable. This individual may also assist with financial reporting and year-tax and auditing preparation. The position reports to the Senior Accounting Manager.
Responsibilities include opening, date stamping, reviewing, logging in, and distributing all incoming invoices for proper signatures, authorizations, purchase order numbers and coding; handling cash deposits; receiving and processing all incoming membership and checks, verifying that the checks have been logged correctly, preparing the bank deposit, and entering receivable information into the accounting database. This position is also responsible for processing payroll and transmitting payroll, processing payments to VISA charges and accounts payable systems, generating accounts receivable, preparing accounts payable vouchers, processing weekly check run, preparing and process journal entries; processing retirement plan and transportation benefit transactions, assisting with maintaining and reconciling labor hour distribution report; assisting with month and year-end closing, compiling information and preparing 1099 forms for year-end distribution, preparing and adjusting journal entries for bank reconciliations and expense reclassifications, orienting new staff to accounting procedures and timesheet system, assisting with preparation of financial reports and year-end closings, printing standard monthly general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll reports, and assisting with preparations related to tax and agency audits.
Qualified applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related discipline and a minimum of two (2) years of hands-on accounting experience to include demonstrated experience in accounts payable and payroll. An understanding of standard accounting practices and principles including not-for-profit accounting practices and standards. Applicants must also posses the ability to effectively handle multiple, concurrent tasks and effective oral and written communication skills including the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff, member institutions, subcontractors and the general public. This position requires advanced proficiency in standard business applications (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and in the use of accounting software applications. Knowledge of Dynamics NAV, Databasics, ADP preferred.
