POSITION 14069 — The College of Marine Science at the University of South Florida (USF) is offering a 2-year Visiting Research Associate/Fish Popluation Endowed Postdoctoral Fellow position.
We are seeking an outstanding scientist with a recent doctorate, generally awarded within the last 5 years in marine science, oceanography, or a closely related field relevant to fish population dynamics, fisheries oceanography, marine and estuarine sciences, or marine ecology. Strong pedagogical skills, experience organizing and participating in interdisciplinary fishery and oceanographic research, and synthesis of ecosystem datasets is essential.
The successful candidate should demonstrate excellence in scholarly productivity. Demonstrated ability to apply biological, climate and oceanographic data to fish population dynamics using modern/emerging multispecies/ecosystem studies and statistical modeling is preferred. Advanced knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of fish population ecology, stock assessment, fisheries management, and a working knowledge of the physical and biogeochemical processes driving primary production, zooplankton dynamics, and food-web regulation is desired. The ability to develop and refine predictive population monitoring and assessment techniques (e.g., factors influencing year-class strength) of a detail necessary to evaluate direct effects of human actions and climate change is desired.
This position will work in partnership with state and federal fisheries resource scientists to assist in the application of biological, climate and oceanographic data to fish population dynamics models. Strong quantitative skills and a willingness to work with interdisciplinary research teams are required. The successful candidate will participate in the Marine Resource Assessment program and will work with one or several of our tenure faculty for the purpose of conducting high-quality research, publishing of results, assisting in training graduate students, participating in securing extramural funds, presenting at national conferences, and potentially participating in research cruises. The successful applicant will be expected to teach graduate-level courses in fish population dynamics. The St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership Peter R. Betzer Endowment provides a 2 year appointment with a competitive salary including a full fringe benefits package and $2,000 for research expenses. After the completion of the 2-year term, the appointment can be continued using extramural funding and assuming satisfactory performance.
The College of Marine Science at USF is a rapidly expanding group spanning all of the major marine science disciplines. We encourage interested applicants to review our research programs by visiting our web site at: http://www.marine.usf.edu.
