Program Update: Deep Earth Academy – November 2010

Deep Earth Academy’s Education Officer Joe Monaco has been onboard the JOIDES Resolution since early October, participating in IODP Expedition 329 South Pacific Gyre Microbiology. Joe has been immersing himself in the expedition’s research, absorbing information about chemistry, microbiology, and ship operations. Joe has been blogging regularly about the things he learns and the people he has met at http://joidesresolution.org/blog/48. The ship is expected to arrive at its last drilling site of the expedition later this week.
Deep Earth Academy has recently issued a call for applications to the 2010-2011 J/aRt Competition. The competition invites artwork from students worldwide, aged 5-17 years old. Three prizes within each age group will be awarded, including a Flip Camera. Competition age groups are: 5-8; 9-12; 13-17 years of age.
