The 25 National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) sites are gearing up for their regional competitions to be held Saturday, February 6 and March 6, 2010. Many of the sites will be implementing the new electronic software that allows the competitions to be paper-free! If you are interested in volunteering as a competition official (moderator, science judge, rules judge, time keeper, score keeper and runner) or for other miscellaneous jobs, go to www.nosb.org and click on the regional map tab to find the competition nearest you. Contact the corresponding regional coordinator to volunteer.
To volunteer at Washington D.C.’s regional bowl, the Chesapeake Bay Bowl (CBB), please contact the regional coordinator, Staci Lewis, at chesapeakebaybowl@hotmail.com. Volunteer trainings for the CBB will be held Tuesday, Feb 2 and Wednesday Feb 17, 2010. Please note that it is only necessary to attend one training session.
In addition to the regional competitions, the NOSB National office is hosting its second annual “Living on the Ocean Planet” video competition in partnership with the Census of Marine Life (CoML), the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) and the Encyclopedia of Life (EOL). The goal is to showcase student-developed original videos that educate the general public about marine technology and address the Essential Ocean Literacy Principles. Regional winners will be selected and announced on April 1, 2010. A National winner will be announced on April 23, 2010. The National winner will be invited to attend the 2010 NOSB Finals Competition in St Petersburg, Florida to debut their winning video.
