In mid November NOSB concluded its Technical Advisory Panels that reviewed and edited the 2011 competition questions. The NOSB staff would like to thank all of our volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to help us create a challenging set of competition questions for this year.
NOSB and IODP-Deep Earth Academy are joining forces to host a professional development webinar for NOSB coaches and Deep Earth Academy teachers from December 2-17, 2010 on NOSB’s 2011 competition theme: Human Responses to Ocean Events.
The webinar series will include asynchronous activities, as well as six live web-based presentations. Guest experts from NOAA, University of Wisconsin, Columbia University and Ocean Leadership will present on hurricanes, marine policy, fisheries, seismic activity, harmful algae blooms and oil spill response. The educators participating in this program will gain with a much stronger understanding of society’s response to oceanic events, which they will be able to incorporate it into their curriculum for their regular classes and use it to prepare their NOSB team for the 2011 competition season. If you are interested in participating in the live portion of the series please email nosb@oceanleadership.org to be invited to the webinars. All the asynchronous information will be available to all interested parties on the NOSB web site http://www.nosb.org/professional-development/.
Please remember that the deadline for our “Living on the Ocean Planet” video contest is January 28, 2011. Any high school student or team can enter a video. The theme for this year’s contest matches the NOSB competition theme: Human Responses to Ocean Events.
