Program Update: National Oceanographic Partnership Program – April 2010
Filed under: Discovery,News & Resources,NOPP,Program Updates - National Oceanographic Partnership Program
The Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnership’s Biodiversity Ad Hoc group held their quarterly meeting on April 22, 2010 at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. Topics discussed include a pilot study on airborne high definition video surveys off the coast of the U.S., biodiversity science required to support ecosystem based management and the USA National Phenology Network (NPN). The NPN encourages citizen scientists to record field observations of changes in phenology, by monitoring the first event of an action, such as a flower blooming or a species migration, and to input their data into the “Nature’s Notebook” on the web site www.usanpn.org. Currently, the NPN monitors 13 marine animals and fish species and four aquatic plant species. The NPN plans to add additional terrestrial and marine species to “Nature’s Notebook” this fall.
The National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) has recently joined two social networking websites to make it easier for interested stakeholders to stay updated on NOPP-related news and new NOPP funding announcements. Please follow NOPP on Facebook and Twitter.
