The Ocean Research & Resources Advisory Panel (ORRAP) held its spring meeting at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership on 15-16 March 2010. Prominent meeting topics included marine spatial planning, ocean observing in the Arctic, ocean education, and ocean acidification.
The ORRAP developed three official recommendations regarding: 1) ocean sciences in STEM education; 2) future directions for the ORPPIS; and 3) the NOAA IOOS Road Map. The ORRAP also formally established an Ocean Acidification Task Force to provide expert advice and complement federal interagency efforts. All recommendations, presentations, and meeting documents can be viewed under the Meetings header of the ORRAP website.
Additionally, ORRAP Chair Paul Gaffney has received the distinct honor of being elected to the newest class of the National Academy of Engineering. We wish him hearty congratulations! Read more here.
The next ORRAP meeting will be held on 27-28 July 2010 in Seward, AK.
