On July 19, President Obama issued an Executive Order adopting the recommendations of the Ocean Policy Task Force, including special elevation of the ORRAP to independent advisor to the Secretary-level National Ocean Council (NOC). ORRAP has fully readied itself and looks forward to fulfilling its role of providing independent advice and recommendations to the NOC. ORRAP’s recent and future near-term focal areas include such national priority topics as education, the Arctic, renewable energy, ocean observing, ocean acidification, marine spatial planning, oil spill data, and interagency collaboration. To address these and other priority objectives, ORRAP members eagerly anticipate robust interaction with the NOC as that group implements the newly created National Ocean Policy.
The next ORRAP meeting will be held on December 8-9 at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership in Washington, DC. All are welcome. Please continue to monitor the ORRAP website for updates: http://www.nopp.org/committees/orrap/.
