UNE to Host Regional Ocean Sciences Bowl

The Department of Marine Sciences at the University of New England will host the regional 2010 Ocean Sciences Bowl on Feb. 6 at the Alfond Center for Health Sciences.
(From MaineToday / by Kelley Bouchard) — The “Nor’easter Bowl” is open to teams from high schools across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. During the day-long competition, 19 teams of four to five students will test their knowledge of scientific and technical disciplines through quick-answer, buzzer questions and more complex team challenge problems.
The winning team will advance to the National Ocean Sciences Bowl in April at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg.
Each year, about 2,000 students from 300 schools compete for prizes and scholarships in marine science bowls across the country.
Regional sponsors include the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, University of Maine, Maine Sea Grant College Program, New Hampshire Sea Grant Program, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, The Chewonki Foundation, College of the Atlantic, Darling Marine Center, Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center, Maine Maritime Academy and Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve.
