From the President’s Office – 9/9/2011

Well, I guess it is time to say goodbye summer, hello fall. Everything from the weather to the increased traffic has echoed the change in season in DC this week. And with that, a flood of new meetings, events and activities have been literally pouring in the doors.
I am very much looking forward to the Senate Oceans Caucus press conference that is occurring at noon next Tuesday, as I will be representing Ocean Leadership in support of this new, bipartisan group that will work to increase the visibility of the importance of our oceans to the future of our country. I will provide more information on this inaugural day next week. In the meantime, you can click here to read the media advisory about the mid-day event.
This week, the Senate adopted its spending allocations in accordance with the new debt law – the result of which is a slight decrease in the allocation from last year for Commerce, Justice, and Science (where NSF, NASA and NOAA reside), yet about $2 billion more than the House has proposed for 2012. We will update you as soon as we know the specific agency Senate numbers. Also on Capitol Hill, the deficit reduction committee is meeting as GOP presidential hopefuls and the President announce job creation measures. So, things are now in full swing in this town. It is certainly looking like this is going to be an interesting fall.
Enjoy the weekend. Hopefully, the sun will decide to shine on all of us wherever you live!
Bob
