The National Science Foundation is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Program Director in the Biological Oceanography Program within the Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE), Directorate for Geosciences (GEO).
The Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE) supports basic research and education to further understanding of all aspects of the global oceans and their interactions with the earth and the atmosphere. The Biological Oceanography Program supports research in marine ecology broadly defined: relationships among aquatic organisms and their interactions with the environments of the oceans or Great Lakes. The Division also offers opportunities to participate in global change research programs and other NSF-wide programs.
NSF Program Directors bear the primary responsibility for carrying out the agency’s overall mission to support innovative and merit-reviewed activities in basic research and education that contribute to the nation’s technical strength, security, and welfare. To fulfill this responsibility requires not only knowledge in the appropriate disciplines, but also a commitment to high standards, a considerable breadth of interest and receptivity to new ideas, a strong sense of fairness, good judgment, and a high degree of personal integrity.
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. and/or equivalent experience in the area of marine ecology/ biological oceanography, or related disciplines such as biology, marine microbial ecology, etc., plus at least six years of research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.
