Research Scientist or Research Professor in Ocean Observing Systems Opportunities in the Geochemical and Environmental Research Group and Oceanography Department at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA.

The Geochemical and Environmental Research Group and the Department of Oceanography invite applications for the position of Research Scientist or Research Professor, at the Assistant, Associate, and Full rank. GERG is a research center in the College of Geosciences of Texas A&M University with research programs in physical oceanography, environmental chemistry and petroleum geochemistry. The Department of Oceanography is home to 30 faculty members and 75 graduate students and conducts research around the world. With an annual budget of approximately $3 million, GERG derives most of its funding from grants and contracts awarded by federal and state agencies, including NSF, BOEMRE, USFWS, EPA and Texas General Land Office.

Minimum requirement: completed PhD in physical oceanography or closely related field; Rank will be commensurate with experience. The ideal candidate has a strong background in observational physical oceanographic methods and instrumentation. Knowledge of oceanographic data processing methods, graphical representation, time series and advanced statistical analyses is preferred. Helpful programming languages include: UNIX scripting, MATLAB, or other scientific software packages. Individuals should be creative, organized, motivated, and able to work well as part of a group. The successful applicant is expected to participate in and contribute to the development and operations of the Gulf of Mexico Integrated Spill Response Consortium, the Texas Automated Buoy System and other sea-going physical oceanographic projects. The successful applicant is also expected to explore collaborations with the TAMU Department of Oceanography and participate in graduate student mentoring and training. The College is home to the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program and the Texas SeaGrant Office.
