Program Update: Census of Marine Life – March 2011
The Census of Marine Life Beyond 2010 Scientific Planning Committee, a committee tasked with developing ideas for a new marine biodiversity research program, met this week in Washington, DC to outline a plan for a potential new program that would be building on the work of the Census, around the theme “Life in a Changing Ocean.” This group will be working over the next few months to build broad community support for the plan and to raise funding for the implementation of a new program.
The Science Planning Committee looks forward to discussing the plan with the marine biodiversity community at the “Beyond 2010” Workshop: Building a new international science program beyond the first Census of Marine Life. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the 2nd World Conference on Marine Biodiversity in Aberdeen, Scotland in September 2011.
