2012 Public Policy Forum
On Wednesday, March 7, Ocean Leadership will hold its annual Public Policy Forum on Capitol Hill. This year’s theme is the science of ocean, coastal and Great Lakes restoration. The all-day event will feature five Members of Congress; research scientists; and federal representatives from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, Environmental Protection Agency and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. The speakers will discuss the scientific components of restoration, present examples of current restoration projects and provide an update on restoring the Gulf of Mexico after 2010’s oil spill tragedy. Many restoration efforts around the country have successfully redressed major obstacles to local ecosystem health. Our challenge now lies in incorporating science into the restoration process to better inform future efforts. Wednesday’s forum will foster a robust dialogue on the importance of science to support successful and comprehensive restoration planning around the country.
