From the President’s Office – 12/20/2012

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending and participating at the opening of Bigelow Laboratory’s new Ocean Science and Education Campus in East Boothbay, Maine. It was an absolutely wonderful event, and I am just so pleased that I was able to be a part of the festivities. The architecture and laboratories of the new 60,000- square foot facility earned a platinum rating. I recommend you look at Bigelow’s website to learn more. Special thanks to Graham Shimmield, Bigelow Executive Director and President, and his team for a special day for all 300 of us!
At the event, I spoke about the serious challenges that our field faces, regardless of the outcome of the impending fiscal cliff. As I have said before, we need to look for new ways to work together as a community. The Bangor Daily News wrote a great article accompanied by photos and a video of the event. You can view that here. For a full list of event speakers, click here. Congratulations Bigelow on your wonderful new campus.
I wish you all a very happy holiday and a wonderful New Year. My hope is that wherever you are, you have a joyous time with family and friends. Get plenty of rest; next year is certainly shaping up to be an interesting one.
Bob
