From the President’s Office – 8/30/2012
This week was a good example of the power of ocean-atmosphere coupling processes to create a devastating situation for our friends on the Gulf. From unbelievable amounts of rainfall of up to two inches an hour, to major storm surge and flooding, Isaac has been a huge storm. Pascagoula, Mississippi even experienced a tornado. This is a stark reminder of how important it is for us to be able to predict these kinds of disastrous events to prevent loss of life and to minimize loss of property. I want to let all of our colleagues on the Gulf know that all of us here at Ocean Leadership are thinking of you and hope that this hurricane did minimal damage to you and your families. I also hope you all are able to enjoy this last long weekend of summer wherever you live.
Bob
