Program Update: Advocacy – October 2012

Congress was out of session for most of October after having passed a stopgap spending measure to fund the federal government through the end of March 2013 at current year levels. Congress could consider individual appropriations bills or an omnibus spending package during the lame duck session. However, most attention is currently on efforts to avoid the fiscal cliff, including budget sequestration (8.2 percent across-the-board cuts) that is scheduled to go into effect on January 2, 2013. The size and scope of a deficit deal will likely be determined by the outcome of the November elections.
