Program Update: Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative – May 2012
The first Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) Research Consortia Outreach & Communications Meeting was held on May 9 in Metairie, Louisiana. The goals of the meeting were to (1) share, discuss and explore possible synergies between Consortium outreach plans; (2) Explore ideas for program-wide/program-level outreach and communications to bring value added and enhance visibility and effectiveness of efforts; and (3) Develop a plan for internal communication and discussion regarding outreach and communications. Several items were discussed as opportunities for coordination and collaboration across research consortia. A follow-up to the meeting was held via conference call on May 22, where the Research Consortia provided updates on their outreach activities, plans and announcements. These calls will continue on a monthly basis to encourage the research consortia to stay in communication with each other.
GoMRI, along with federal partners, will hold a Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference on January 21-23, 2012 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The conference is open to the research and stakeholder communities. Registration and abstract submission will open in June. For more information on the themes of the conference, click here.
