Program Update: National Ocean Sciences Bowl – January 2013
Two presentations remain in the National Ocean Sciences Bowl’s® (NOSB) Professional Development Webinar Series (PDWS). On Tuesday, January 29, Peter McAvoy will discuss the Great Lakes Compact and water policy issues in the Great Lakes. On Thursday, January 31, Drs. Carmen Aguilar and Russell Cuhel will present part two of their webinar on Lake Michigan food webs and invasive species. Both presentations will begin at 8:00 p.m. EST. The 25 NOSB sites are gearing up for their regional competitions to be held February 9 and February 23, 2013. We wish the competing teams the best of luck!
The 25 winning teams from each regional bowl will compete at the 16th Annual NOSB Finals Competition at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s School of Continuing Education on April 18-22, 2013 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 2013 theme is “The Great Lakes: A Window into Freshwater Science.” For more information, click here.
The NOSB, in partnership with the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) and the Ocean Today Kiosk, is sponsoring the 2013 Living on the Ocean Planet video contest. The submission deadline is quickly approaching – March 11, 2013. Any student currently enrolled in high school is eligible to submit a 1-3 minute video on this year’s contest theme: “A Window into Freshwater Science.” For more information, click here.
