Board & Members Committees

Board Committees:

Executive Committee

Working closely with the President and the executive team, the Executive Committee conducts the business of the corporation on behalf of the Board in between Board Meetings. It is comprised of the Board Chair, the Vice Chair and the Chairs of each of the Board committees.

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee oversees that annual audit of Ocean Leadership’s financial statements and any other audit activities, as requested by the Executive Committee.

Board Committee to Make Nominations

The Board Nominating Committee is responsible for nominating Trustees to serve as Officers of the Corporation. The Committee also nominates Trustees to serve on the standing committees of the Board.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee oversees Ocean Leadership’s financial management functions. The Committee works closely with the Chief Financial Officer in monitoring and reporting to the Board on the organization’s investment and debt policies and transactions.

Personnel Committee

The Board of Trustees has placed the Personnel Committee on hiatus.

Public Policy Committee

Working closely with the Director of External Affairs, the Public Policy Committee helps establish the advocacy priorities and policy positions of Ocean Leadership. All Trustees serve on the Committee, as do any Member Representatives with interest in engaging with the organization’s advocacy activities.

Ocean Leadership Working Group to Develop Future Funding Models for New Ships

The Working Group to Develop Future Funding Models for New Ships has been asked to review existing models to fund and support the academic research fleet and develop alternative approaches that can be prioritized and recommended to the Ocean Leadership Board of Trustees. The Working Group will conduct its review in the context of recent studies of the research fleet by the NRC, UNOLS, and the Federal Oceanographic Facilities Committee.

Ocean Leadership: Delivering the Next Generation of Ocean Sciences, A Working Group

This Working Group was established in response to the robust discussion that was inspired by Bob Gagosian’s comments during his President’s Report at the March 2011 Members Meeting. The Group’s charge is to explore and discuss strategies, areas and ways in which the Ocean Sciences community might evolve its current practices, approaches, and business models in order to achieve increased collaboration, efficiencies and leveraging capability in an environment of increased financial constraints that are both internal and external to individual institutions.
