Schlanger Ocean Drilling Fellowship
Funded by USSSP, the Schlanger Ocean Drilling Fellowship Program offers merit-based awards ($28,000 for one year) for outstanding graduate students to conduct research related to the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program. Research may be directed toward the objectives of specific expeditions or may address broader themes.

National Ocean Scholar Program
The National Ocean Scholar Program provides tuition assistance for NOSB students who have an interest in pursuing an ocean or a marine science in their post-high school education. Scholars will receive $3,000 a year for the first two years of undergraduate studies, totaling $6,000. The application process is only open to past NOSB participants.

HBCU Fellowships
Funded by USIO, HBCU Fellowships provide research and educational experiences related to scientific ocean drilling and large-scale science program management. The fellowship are open to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in science, engineering, education, or communications who are also enrolled a Historically Black Colleges and Universities institution.

Teacher Fellow
Deep Earth Academy supports an educator to work at Ocean Leadership to develop ocean science curricula, produce teacher-training workshops, maintain communication within a community of educators, and assist with conference logistics. The fellowship is for one year.

Grants and Funding Opportunities
IODP Planning Workshops
USSSP sponsors planning workshops to develop new ideas to study the Earth via scientific ocean drilling, to engage new communities in the program, and to synthesize results of past expeditions. Proposal review occurs biannually after the submission deadlines of October 1 and April 1.

IODP Pre-Drilling Activities
USSSP sponsors pre-drilling activities to provide funds in quick response to an opportunity to acquire data or information that will enhance a drilling expedition. Proposals are accepted year round, with priority given to projects that support expeditions already on the IODP schedule.

IODP Platform Participation and Post-Expedition Awards
USSSP provides salaries to US scientists in support of their participation on an IODP expedition. As part of their participation, US-science party members are eligible for supplemental funds of up to $13,000 for post-expedition science activities to meet publication obligations. Funds are awarded shortly after each expedition, based on a review of individual participation plans.
