Nicholas A. Rome is the Program Associate for the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Observations at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. At Ocean Leadership, Nick arranges logistics and reports on meetings of national and international steering committees, governing councils, and working groups associated with the ongoing programs.
Nick joined Ocean Leadership in January 2009 after working as an Economic Researcher at the National Ocean Economics Program in Moss Landing, California. Along with reporting global and national economic impacts of coastal and maritime industries, Nick’s work also included researching restoration alternatives and subsequent policy implications for the Elkhorn Slough estuary. Nick applied tactical and effective legislative support to the Natural Resources, Water and Environment committees in the Arizona State Legislature. Other professional experience includes employment as a Hydrological Technician for the USDA National Forest Service and various jobs for city and regional environmental planning.
In 2008, he obtained a Master’s Degree in International Environmental Policy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Nick has also received a Bachelor’s from Arizona State University in Applied Biological Sciences with a concentration on ecological restoration.
Nick supplemented his professional work and education with environmental assignments abroad. These projects spanned from conducting biological assessments in the tropical rainforests of Ecuador to implementing sustainable coastal development projects in rural communities of El Salvador.
