Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of attending a dinner at the Pentagon, hosted by Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, a former Trustee of Ocean Leadership. It was an honor to be invited and participate in discussions with so many accomplished people.

The possible reorganization of federal agencies has been a hot topic here in Washington this week. Moving the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from the Commerce Department to the Interior Department is among one of President Obama’s proposals.

Back in August, an important announcement was made by the National Science Foundation (NSF) regarding its plan to modify the funding and managing model for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program’s (IODP) drilling vessel JOIDES Resolution.
