During the month of November, the Interagency Working Group on Facilities and Infrastructure (IWG-FI), the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships (IWG-OP), the IWG-FI Task Force on Unmanned Systems (TFUS), and the full Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology (SOST) all held meetings.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has released a summary report from the Atlantic Wind Energy Workshop held from 12 July 2011 through 14 July 2011 in Herndon, Virginia.
At the October meeting, the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships elected a new Co-Chair, Dr. Rodney Cluck from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
The Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships (IWG-OP) met on August 12 and discussed potential FY 2012 funding opportunities. A briefing was also given on the July Biodiversity Ad Hoc Meeting and the Atlantic Wind Energy Workshop, hosted by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE).
The IWG-FI received a briefing from the National Science Foundation (NSF) on the efficacy of leasing versus buying ice-capable vessels. The IWG-FI also discussed their role in implementing Strategic Action Plan #9 on Ocean Infrastructure.
Several members from the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships met in June to discuss Public Law 111-11, which calls for the formation of a task force on Ocean Exploration and Undersea Research Technology and Infrastructure.
This cooperative effort to gather information for science-based decision making is consistent with the National Policy for the Stewardship of the Oceans, Our Coasts and Great Lakes, adopted by President Obama in July 2010.
