Graduate Students Awarded Prestigious Schlanger Fellowships

Three graduate students in A&M’s College of Geosciences have been awarded prestigious Schlanger Fellowships. Oceanography graduate students Daniel Murphy and Masako Tominaga won awards for the 2007-08 academic year, while geology and geophysics graduate student Hiroko Kitajima won a fellowship for 2006-07.

Dr. Catherine O’Riordan Named Director of the U.S. Science Support Program at JOI

The Joint Oceanographic Institutions (JOI), a consortium of leading U.S. oceanographic research institutions, announced that it has named Dr. Catherine O’Riordan as the director of the U.S. Science Support Program for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, effective March 12, 2007.

Bering Sea Drilling Workshop, Fairbanks, AK

The Bering Strait, Rapid Climate Change, and Land Bridge Paleoecology” was a USSSP-sponsored workshop held in June 2005 to discuss potential scientific ocean drilling in the Bering Sea Shelf basins. The purpose of the interdisciplinary workshop is to formulate key scientific questions, identify relevant drilling sites, discuss drilling platform options, and to begin coordinating subsequent geophysical surveys, proposals, and multi-proxy analyses.
