AGU Chapman Conference on Detachments in Oceanic Lithosphere: Deformation, Magmatism, Fluid Flow, and Ecosystems
[ May 8, 2010 to May 16, 2010. ] Oceanic core complexes (OCCs) are deep sections of the oceanic lithosphere exhumed to the seafloor by long-lived detachment faults formed along the flanks of ultra-slow to intermediate-spreading mid-ocean ridges.
The MoHole: A Crustal Journey and Mantle Quest
[ June 3, 2010 to June 5, 2010. ] The 2010 MoHole workshop follows several recent scientific planning meetings on scientific drilling in the ocean lithosphere, in particular the "Mission Moho" workshop in 2006, and the "Melting, Magma, Fluids and Life" workshop in 2009.
IODP Primer: An Introduction to Ocean Drilling Programs
[ December 13, 2009; 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. ] New to the ocean drilling programs? Wondering how to request samples or data? Or sail on an expedition? If so, attend “IODP Primer: An Introduction to Ocean Drilling Programs.”
Scientific Ocean Drilling of Mid-Ocean Ridge and Ridge-Flank Settings
[ August 27, 2009 to August 28, 2009. ] Mid-ocean ridges accrete the world’s oceanic crust, cause the largest chemical interaction between the lithosphere and seawater, and host some of the most unknown biological systems in the world.
IODP New Ventures in Exploring Scientific Targets (INVEST): September 23-25, 2009
[ September 23, 2009 to September 25, 2009. ]
INVEST is being organized as a large, multidisciplinary, international community meeting, whose focus is to define the scientific research goals of the second phase of the IODP, expected to begin late in 2013. INVEST is open to all interested scientists and students as the principal opportunity for international science community members to help shape the future of scientific ocean drilling.
