Lorraine Brasseur: Post-Doctoral Oceanographer, Ocean Observing Activities, Ocean Observing

Tel: (202) 787-1608
Email: lbrasseur@oceanleadership.org

Lorraine arrived at the Ocean Observing Activities Program Office in February, 2008, fresh from the Ph.D. program in Marine Science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science of the College of William and Mary. During her studies, she spent much of her time near the VIMS pier where she attempted to add as many acoustic current meters as possible to the moorings and buoys that made up the VECOS (Virginia Estuarine and Coastal Observing System) in the York River. When she wasn’t studying mixing and turbulence and their effect on sediment transport in the York River, she could be found sailing as crew for Wednesday night races and windsurfing in the York River. She has worked as an educator, research scientist, and computer programmer in a number of places including NASA Langley Research Center, Old Dominion University, Stony Brook University, the Sea Education Association and the SUNY Maritime Academy. She received her M.S. in Marine Environmental Science from Stony Brook University in 1995 and her B.A. in Mathematics from Franklin and Marshall College in 1992.
