Deadline to Apply for NanTroSEIZE Stage 2
Location: Washington, DC Apply to Sail NanTroSEIZE Stage 2
The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program has begun accepting applications for scientific participants on the next two expeditions of the Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone Experiment (NanTroSEIZE). Expedition 319 (NanTroSEIZE Kumano Basin Riser) will consist of riser drilling in the Kumano forearc basin and riserless drilling across a shallow branch of the mega-splay fault to prepare cased holes for future deployment of long-term borehole observatories. Scientists interested in the structure and history of the inner accretionary prism and forearc basin, in situ stress conditions, as well as shallow-splay fault log response are encouraged to apply. Expedition 322 (NanTroSEIZE Sediment Inputs) will investigate pre-subduction materials in the Shikoku Basin seaward of the Nankai subduction system. Scientists interested in sediments, basement rocks, fluids, and microorganisms delivered to the Nankai subduction zone are encouraged to apply. U.S.-affiliated scientists interested in participating in these expeditions should apply to sail through the U.S. Science Support Program of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership by October 15, 2008.
