Derrek arrived at JOI in September 2000. As EVMS/ Finance Manager, he is responsible for overseeing the development, organization, and implementation of the Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and financial reporting for the Ocean Observatories Initiative network with some limited reporting and EVMS duties for the SODV project. Prior to joining the OOI team, he served over 5 years as the Accounting Manager at JOI. Derrek has served over eighteen years as the Accounting Manager, Director of Financial Operations for several non-profit organizations including the Joseph P. Kennedy Institute ($13.5 M) budget, Alton Park/Dodson Ave. Community Health Centers, a division of Erlanger Medical Center in Tennessee ($116M) budget, Chattanooga city government and Blue cross Blue shield of Tennessee. He is currently seeking the PMP certification with aspirations of pursuing advanced studies in project management. Derrek holds a B.A. degree in Accounting/Management from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. He is a native Washingtonian, an ordained deacon, who enjoys many outdoor off road adventures.
