The health of our ocean and its resources are in decline and a new era of integrated, science-based management is needed. Marine ecosystems are extremely diverse, ranging in both latitude and depth. Resource managers must consider human activities, benefits and impacts within a broad biological and physical environment. Interdisciplinary research can provide the information needed to balance competing uses of the marine environment.
