National Oceanographic Partnership Program
The National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) is an innovative collaboration of federal agencies that funds research partnerships among academia, government, industry, and non-governmental organizations.
Established by Congress in FY 1997, NOPP coordinates and strengthens oceanographic efforts in the areas of data, resources, education and communication. Ocean Leadership serves as the NOPP Program Office. NOPP's Goals include:
- Achieve and sustain an Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS)
- Promote lifelong ocean education
- Modernize ocean infrastructure and enhance technology development
- Foster interagency partnerships to increase and apply scientific knowledge
NOPP facilitates interactions among federal agencies, academia and industry; increases visibility for ocean issues on the national agenda; and achieves a higher level of coordinated effort across the broad oceanographic community. NOPP is overseen by the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships (IWG-OP). Read their strategic plan here.
