Preliminary Design Review

Public Document Repository

A Preliminary Design Review (PDR) of the Ocean Observatories Initiative, conducted for the National Science Foundation's Division of Ocean Sciences, was held on December 4-7, 2007. The 20-member panel was asked to assess the robustness of the technical design and completeness of the budget and construction planning, the effectiveness of project management through the PDR stage of development, as well as plans for the remaining design work, construction, commissioning and eventual operation of the OOI Network.

A comprehensive suite of design and management documents was developed by the OOI Project Team. These documents, various presentations made throughout PDR, and additional supporting and background documents can be downloaded below.

The overall conclusion of the NSF PDR Panel was extremely positive. The final PDR Panel Report contains 42 recommendations that will help with planning steps leading to the OOI Final Design Review in October/November 2008 and eventual submission of the program to the National Science Board for approval of the start of MREFC funding.
