The JOIDES Resolution (JR) departed Singapore on January 25th transiting to Guam where the Readiness Assessment Team (RAT) embarked. This team, affectionately know as the RATs, is an independent group of highly experienced scientists which assessed the completion of the SODV project and the readiness of the JR for international operations. Upon leaving Guam on February 9th, the JR transited to the Ontong Java Plateau where sea trials of drilling, coring, logging and science systems were performed on February 13-20th (link below). The RATs were major contributors to testing and preparing the science systems and applications for future expeditions. Their findings and recommendations are well documented in a final report (link below). From there, the JR transited to Honolulu arriving on March 5th for a port call and expedition preparations. The JR departed Honolulu on March 10th on its first expedition, the Pacific Equatorial Age Transect (link below).

The closeout of the SODV project continues with work on the final punch list of 200+ items, including RATs findings and recommendations, remaining ship and shipyard items, and USIO determined items.

The substantive progress made to date may be best communicated through pictures, not words. Links to a few images taken by members of the SODV team are provided below.

The outreach team for IODP-USIO has produced an updated slideshow of the progress of the conversion work in the shipyard, it is available on Ocean Leadership's YouTube Channel.

Science Test Drive

In June 2008, a committee of scientists conducted a "test drive" of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and several analytical systems for the NSF-funded Scientific Ocean Drilling Vessel (SODV) refit of the JOIDES Resolution (JR) at TAMU-IODP headquarters.
