Deadline Extended: Apply to Sail on NanTroSEIZE
The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program is accepting applications for scientific participants on the next expedition of the Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone Experiment (NanTroSEIZE), which is scheduled to begin in June 2010. U.S.-affiliated scientists interested in participating in the expeditions should apply to sail through the U.S. Science Support Program. More Information |

Letter from the USAC Chair
With planning for the next drilling program underway on multiple fronts, I would like to invite your input to the U.S. Advisory Committee for Scientific Ocean Drilling (USAC). USAC is a 12-member representative body that advises the U.S. Science Support Program (USSSP) on programmatic and policy issues. We represent you, and your input is crucial for making meaningful recommendations on behalf of the U.S. scientific ocean drilling community. Read More |

Expedition 318: Update from the Southern Ocean
IODP Expedition 318, Wilkes Land Glacial History, is currently coring in the Southern Ocean. This expedition will provide a long-term record, obtained from sedimentary archives along an inshore to offshore transect, of Antarctic glaciation and its intimate relationships with global climatic and oceanographic change. Despite initial rough weather conditions, the targeted drilling sites were reached and microfossil analyses indicated Oligocene ages. Borehole U1356A is being extended to ensure full characterization of the greenhouse to icehouse transition. Read Daily and Weekly Reports |

Expedition 324: Preliminary Report Released
The preliminary report from Expedition 324 (Shatsky Rise) is now available online. The Shatsky Rise Expedition sailed in September and October to test the plume and plate models of ocean plateau formation in the northwest Pacific Ocean. The expedition penetrated the basement lavas from four sites and successfully collected suitable fresh lavas for Ar/Ar radiometric age dating. The cores and data collected from these and a fifth site allow for the examination of the age, physical volcanology, geochemistry, and tectonic evolution of the rise. Read Report |
