Report: IODP and Ocean Acidification Research
With support from USSSP, a small group of scientists met last January to discuss the role of scientific ocean drilling in understanding ocean acidification. The working group identified past ODP/IODP discoveries that have advanced research about ocean acidification and the carbon cycle, future research directions aimed at investigating the fate of carbon entering the ocean, opportunities for immediate progress on the identified research direction, and potential partnerships with other programs and research efforts. Letter from the USAC Chair
“Earlier this month I had the privilege of touring the refitted JOIDES Resolution. Having followed the progress and challenges of the work in the shipyard from afar, I was especially impressed to see how much the ship has been improved…In other good news, USSSP has obtained funding to support additional U.S. scientists to attend the INVEST meeting in Bremen this September….please take advantage of this extended opportunity to apply for travel support…The next few months will bring much excitement to our community and greatly affect the future of scientific ocean drilling. I encourage you to get involved and help set the course for the new phase of drilling beyond 2013.” Read Letter |
